Pillons and Pops

To whomever it may concern (though it should be of grave concern to anyone who's ever sat in a vehicle or has a family, so basically, its everyone),

I would like to express my concern for families with 2.5 members or more. Families that cannot afford four wheel transport and rely mostly on two wheels to transport them from anywhere to anywhere.

Little babies balanced precariously on the arms of a waiflike mother who is also trying her best not to let her saree come undone, the handbag, the heavy poly bag with maybe the day's groceries, the baby is almost lost.

I don't care about the groceries or the poly bags, what i do care about are the babies. The future, our future. You know, this callousness in terms of every aspect of child care in India pisses me off BIG TIME!

We show clear disregard for a child's safety, yet if chunnu wants an extra chocolate (yes chunnu is a boy), chunnu shall get it! And not because he has earned it either...that much is pretty clear even to chunnu, he has a weener, so he figures that little people with weeners get pretty much what they want.

A note to all reading this, i know this is not true for a lot of educated families rich or poor, my mail is purely targetted at people who are sleep walking their lives away, and in this case, in terms of child care.

So, back to the point, my question to you is, WOULD HAVE A CHILD IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO OWN AND SUSTAIN A CAR? MUCH LESS A WIFE? (wife part is a different story, many budgets to choose from!) anyway, back to my question, would you?

Do you think its fair to bring a child in this world if you can't even bother to learn how to hold your infant properly?

My personal take on this would be this, before having a child, i would need sensitivity and a great deal of it directed at my baby's needs before i can even concieve the IDEA of having one!

Then comes in the money part, desire always preceeds the means so finances are a close second. I know this stuff might sound elementary to most of you, but nobody ever talks about it...i wonder if anyone ever thinks about this stuff...

I would like a bill to be passed that bans pillon riders from piling up, i.e. not 2.5 people, but a maximum of 2. No third child standing in the front while papaji goes from karol bagh till baljeet nagar...

Please let me know your views on this

Glad to know that u think soooo deeply on this... me does... and even ur/our "Channel V" did... which was wot i loved about Channel V... :)
Reeta's views: Shoot 'em on sight or atleast knock it in their head that when with the baby, they should atleast board a bus to their destination; so that the child reaches safely and so do the parents...

all apologies before i comment. it's totally my personal perview.

Pritika, i beg to differ on your view completely. are you proposing a law that prevents people from producing babies just because they do not own 2-wheelers instead of 4-wheelers??? you are talking about 2.5, when i have seen a good humdo humare do on 2-wheels... a simple maruti 800 costs 2.5 lakhs. more than 60% of delhi's population lives ON the poverty line. there are still a good number of people who celebrate buying a bajaj chetak for which they have managed to procure a 90%loan from the sbi.

i have seen very closely the joy a newborn brings along into the family. everyone of us someday would crave for it. some sooner (serendipity), others later (hallenging potency). but all of us. we don't want to be childless. and your law forbids me from being happy just because i cannot afford a car whose appetite is Rs.50 for every 12-14 kms it runs....

what about the people who zoom around in their SUV's, kids clamped on their backseats??? ahhh and not to forget, the extra rich with thick goldchains... kids handle the wheel seated on papa's lap while papa smokes a ciggie??? come to my part of town!!!

no sane human being produces kids just to get them killed on the roads. the circumstances and their financial conditions don't permit them to do all. i am sure that the scooterists have a same opinion as you for the cyclists :)
i can imagine what ambani thinks about my folks now!!!
i agree with you when you potray the childs life being precious. please agree with me when i talk about the circumstances... my viewpoint. i hope i was not loud at any point.

@ms skeeter: tu toh chupp karrr... jab kucch pata nahi hota toh nahi bolte... "send the wife and the baccha on a bus"...
dhakkan...
hey, skeeter... how about you make your 6 month old kid board a DTC bus (No. 628) when you and your husband reach india gate on a skooter... hehehe
ms. skeeter& mr.skeeter on a skooter... chotta skeeter BUS mein... i am sure ticket bhi 1/4 hogi!!!

My dear drozzy, i really appreciate your passion on this subject, however you did get me wrong.

Tell me would YOU have a child before you're able to afford all that the one little loving infant needs to grow?

The joy of holding a baby and loving it amazing...you want to give it your all...and happily you will too i'm sure...i just feel that children are so precious that in our selfish joy of wanting to have them, we overlook their needs...our lack of sensitivity towards life and these precious beings diminishes to a great degree.

If, in the hot july sun, i must take my 5-month infant out, will choose the evening so that the sun doesn't harm my baby, the hot harsh winds should not scathe his delicate skin, he should not suffer for my choices...

wouldn't you care that much for your baby too? or would u hand your child to your undernourished and overloaded wife and proudly ride around in your new bajaj chetak?

i don't want to impose a ban on poor couples from having children, i want to impress sensitivity upon their thoughts so that they may make the right choices when it comes to their child's health and not arbitrarily indulge in the infants many uncalled for whims instead.

A good parent is a fair one. I hardly see any of those around anymore and that makes me sad.

@ms. sethi: so the point that you are driving home is that i should not produce a kid till i do not graduate from a bajaj chetak to a maruti 800... do not hole me metaphorically...

i am sorry but i am a bit touvhy about this topic.

@ms. skeeter: skooter ho ya skeeter... ki farak painda hai??? "ter-ter" toh dono mein hai!!!

I don't agree that having children has anything to do with afording a car, but I agree that one can stay home with the babies or use public transport if the need arises. I blogged about this once too... and will do so again now.
