Mobile manners....

This is for the callers, there are some things that are largely being considered rude by the owners of cellphones, see if you agree with these:

1. When you recieve a call and don't want to talk for any reason (busy, or just busy!), you disconect the call, and the person keeps calling back! THAT IS RUDE.

Tip: Call once, if disconnected, the person has SEEN your call and is BUSY. He or she may or MAY NOT want to talk o you.

2. When you SMS someone especially during office hours (or any hours for that matter) and don't recieve a reply immediately, the reciever is NOT ignoring you! Not everyone is looking at their phones every one minute!

3. There is something known as SILENT MODE, which a lot of people use frequently. This means that when you call, and your call isn't answered right away, the reciever may have not seen your call. So leaving ten missed calls won't help.

Ofcourse, i tend to disobey these rules from time to time, but only with those people that i'm at liberty to. Everyone's attitude towards mobile phones should be, 'My mobile is for MY convenience - not for everyone else's'

And please, don't hold it against someone if they didn't return your call, its easy to forget, but yeah if it happening constantly, you may not be a priority.

I'm hoping a few tele-callers read these and when they do talk t me over the phone, they don't demand answers as to why i didn't take their calls. That's real rude. Cellphones are a good thing, but misuse and lack of respect for another person's privacy is increasingly being voilated.
People, i'd really like your comments and views on this.

Thanks

i will comment on the first one.

Obviously, you don't get to hear a response like "Call has been disconnected by the receiver". You get to hear something like "There is no response. Please try again later". How will i know whether the receiver did see the call and ignored it or whether the phone is in silent mode.

Ofcourse, it also happens that at times due to bad signals, it rings sometimes at the exchange and not on the phone. What about such a circumstance.

I'm not against what you said, but evaluating circumstances.

Well Rusty, for one, different service providers have different messages, for instance, if i disconnect a call, it says, "the phone is busy, please try later".

Another thing is that you can always distinguish betweeen whether your call was seen and then disconnected (since its cut off after a few rings) and it wasn't seen at all, in which case the phone rings till it naturally disconnects after a while.

The whole idea behind this blog is that having a mobile phone now seems to be a full time job. You can't ignore the people who aren't important to you (tele-callers and pesky relatives, stalkers), and you're always giving explanations to questions like, "Why didn't you answer my sms??", "Why didn;t you pick up my call?"...

My answer would be, "Because i have a life, one that i live on, in REAL TIME, not mobile time."

Thanks for commenting :) you made me think again.

Well... some people don't understand. And at times it is easier to answer the call and say I'll call you back. Depending on who it is... because some people just never understand :)

i can guess whaqt's happening here... some dude has been bothering the shit out of you. and if he is reading this then there is some serious sugestion going out for him...
"Dude, get a life!!!"

if you hang in there when you are not wanted it's as goos as you being wasted.

about cellfones in particular. i switch off my fone @ night w/o fail. i take calls only when i feel like. there was a time when i did not even answer calls from unknown numbers.

you are right pritika. these babies are for us, we are not for them.

but are we not turning into living gadgets being controlled by cellfones?

i am sure my motorazr tell your nokia how sleek, sexy and sophisticated his living gadget is...
quiet a thought

I think voicemail should help, but it may give rise to new prob- ppl not leaving messages! I kind of wonder why the phone companies in India hav'nt advertise about it so much. Correct me if I am wrong.
